Happy Valentine's Day everyone!  This special day of expressing love to those closest to you (whether family, friends, or a significant other) is a perfect occasion to bake something sweet and chocolatey.  These molten red velvet cakes bring a special ending to your Valentine's Day dinner, and they look and taste amazing!  I found this yummy recipe in the February 2017 edition of Southern Living magazine.  This dessert is amazing for sating my sweet tooth, so I hope it sates yours too!

Raspberry and chocolate are a perfect marriage of flavors.  There is something about the sweetness of the berries and the richness of the chocolate that gets our taste buds salivating.  I found this rich chocolate dessert recipe on a Baker's Semi-Sweet Chocolate bar.  It is a very easy pie to make, and my family absolutely loved it.  With only 5 ingredients and 15 minutes of your time, you will have a beautiful and delicious pie!  This would also make an amazing dessert for Valentine's Day.

Tips:

I used a can of chocolate frosting to hide the foil edging of the pie.  I found the frosting in the baking aisle of the grocery store.

I like to keep the chocolate filling of the pie chocolate, so I did not add raspberry jam to the chocolate filling.  I put the raspberry jam on top of the chocolate instead of mixing them.  You can do it either way as I will include both ways in the recipe.

I have been making these cookies for many years now.  They have become a holiday favorite with my family.  When you take your first bite into one of these mouthwatering cookies, you will understand why these cookies are always on my baking list for Christmas.  What makes these decadent cookies unique is the browning of the butter.  The browned butter adds a depth and richness to the flavor of these Christmas cookies that cannot be beat!  They really are extraordinarily good.  I believe even Santa would approve!

Tips:

When browning the butter, keep a careful eye on the color of the butter as it cooks.  Once the butter starts to brown, cook until it is golden, but watch closely, as it will burn easily.

When adding dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, I like to add in thirds, mixing after each addition.  This method ensures the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Preparation time is 20 minutes.  Baking time is 10 minutes per batch.

These potatoes are an absolute favorite among my family and friends!  They are the perfect mashed potatoes for the Christmas holidays.  If you love garlic, this is most definitely the dish for you.  The recipe calls for garlic herb butter - which means that it is no more extra work than your usual mashed potatoes.  There is no messing with garlic cloves, and extra steps as the butter is all that's needed.  This butter really does make these mashed potatoes shine.  Rich and creamy mashed potatoes are a great addition to any meal, and the garlic taste just makes everything better.  If you're looking for a mashed potato recipe, I highly recommend you give these a try!

For years I bought the canned cranberry sauce for our Thanksgiving meal.  With a big meal to prepare, I didn't want to be bothered with something that people seemed to enjoy from a can.  Then I read that cranberry sauce can be made a couple months in advance, and it keeps well in the refrigerator.  With this enlightening information, I decided to try out a recipe.  This simple recipe comes from the Serious Eats website.  It is simple to prepare, and it is just as good, if not better than the canned stuff.  My family gave this sauce a big thumbs up, and that vote of confidence is all the approval I need!

Tips:

As noted in the introduction, you can make this cranberry sauce a couple of months ahead of time.  Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator until ready to use.

When removing the peel from the orange, make sure to get the outer layer of the orange and not the white pith.  The pith would make the cranberry sauce bitter.

This is one of those recipes that takes a bit more effort, but the results are worth it!  I confess that for many years, I bought the pre-packaged stuffing/dressing at the store.  A few of my family members thought that they didn't like stuffing/dressing, until I decided to make it by scratch.

The nice thing about this recipe is you can make it a day ahead of time.  This is great, because we all know holiday cooking can be exhausting!  I usually get another person to help with the chopping of the herbs and veggies, so it isn't too much work for one person.  This recipe is by Victoria Granof and was published by Bon Appétit in 2012.  If your dressing or stuffing is just ho-hum, I really encourage you to try this.  Those family members that thought they didn't like dressing, now, it's one of their favorite foods for the holiday!

This is a Weicht family recipe that has been passed down for several generations.  Whenever our extended family is gathered together, these brownies are always brought by someone.  They often disappear quick too.  These marshmallow brownies are perfect for welcoming September (and with September - Autumn), because they have butterscotch, chocolate, pecans, and marshmallows in them.  The ingredients (particularly the butterscotch and the pecans) scream Autumn to me.  Whether it's a family get together, an Autumn picnic, or a sweet craving, these disappearing marshmallow brownies are the perfect dessert for the event!
