A traditional treat during the Easter season, these rolls are easy to prepare and yummy to eat.  Hot crossed buns are traditionally filled with raisins or currants, just as these are.  They are wonderfully spiced and have a subtle sweetness.  These buns perfectly pair with coffee or a strong tea.  They are very filling too - perfect for breakfast!  This wonderful recipe comes from King Arthur Flour and makes a lovely soft roll that will have you coming back for more.

Bon Appetit!

Tips:

If you do not have a heavy duty mixer, you can prepare the dough by hand.  When the fruit is cool, mix all of the dough ingredients along with the fruit and any liquid not absorbed.  Turn the dough out to a lightly floured surface.  Knead the dough for about seven minutes and then continue on according to directions.

For a more tender roll, after you let the dough rise (for 1 hour), punch the dough down and let rise for another 40 minutes.  Continue on according to directions.

These mini cupcakes are just adorable!  They are topped with a chocolate chip cream cheese layer and are absolutely delicious.  These black bottom cupcakes are rich and decadent for such a little sweet.  This recipe only takes about an hour, and I highly recommend you try it if you like chocolate.  The recipe makes about 4 1/2 dozen, so there will be plenty to go around if you have the urge to share, and they freeze great (if you don't eat them all within the first day as they are really addicting).  Try these delightful black bottom mini cupcakes, and you will have a perfect fix for any chocolate cravings!

Some of us are still recovering from excess calories during the holidays, so with February upon us and Valentine's Day around the corner, I decided to post this rich dark chocolate smoothie to help satisfy chocolate cravings.  This is both a healthy and delicious alternative to the beginning of February.  This chocolate sweet drink comes from the March 2017 edition of Cooking Light magazine.  It is has no dairy in it.  The addition of dates makes this smoothie extra sweet!

If you are a fan of chai tea, I have the perfect truffle for you!  These chai truffles come from the December 2015 publication of Southern Living's Christmas at Home magazine.  I can definitely say that these little chocolates are heavenly.  If you want to impress friends and family with a gourmet tasting truffle, I recommend you make these chai chocolates.  As an extra bonus, they are easy to prepare, and they keep in the refrigerator for 2 weeks!  I enjoy these little desserts while sipping coffee (but I imagine that they also would be delightful with chai tea) as the hot liquid melts the chocolate and the spices onto my tongue.  The flavor is exquisite!

Aren't these caramel apple cats adorable?  I'm smitten!  These Halloween-inspired caramel apples are a delight to the eyes and to those with a sweet tooth!  I'm not a confidant food decorator, but I found these caramel apples easy to make - even the youngest can help decorate these spooky kitty-cats.  All you need is a few special ingredients.  Just for reference, I got this recipe from the autumn 2017 issue of Celebrate! with Woman's World.  Happy Halloween everyone!

Bon Appetit!

Tips:

You may need to warm up the caramel in-between dipping the apples.

A toothpick may help with the decorating of the cat ears.

Have an extra chocolate candy bar on hand - you may need it because of breakage.

Total Time is 45 minutes.

These wonderful cookies are a perfect holiday treat!  They are sweet with a subtle ginger flavor.  The spices add to the flavor and compliment the ginger in the cookies.  The dark brown sugar and molasses in these little gems add depth and richness to the taste.  I found this recipe in People magazine from the kitchen of Dominique Ansel, a pastry chef in New York City.  If you are looking for a light and sweet flavored ginger cookie this autumn, I highly recommend this recipe!

Bon Appetit

Tips:

If you prefer a stronger ginger flavor, try adding 3 teaspoons of finely grated fresh ginger.

These cookies are a soft cookie...not crisp.

They freeze great!  I put the baked, completely cooked cookies in gallon size freezer bags.  They should be good up to a month.

Preparation time is 20 minutes.  Total time is 40 minutes.

This cake is a new family favorite.  It is delicious and sweet.  I started with a basic buttermilk cake recipe that makes a moist yellow cake.  I then added mascarpone cheese to the frosting.  It adds an extra richness and 'yum' factor to the cake.  The cheese also acts as a stabilizer to the frosting - so it holds up well over time.  The frosting is not overly sweet, but just sweet enough to counter balance the sweetness of the cake perfectly.  Make sure you read through the directions carefully before you begin making this heavenly cake!

Despite the title, these muffins are great any time of the day!  They are sweet with a hint of spice and go perfect with a cup of coffee.  There is a rustic quality to these muffins.  I tried many recipes before I created this one, and I worked to incorporate the best of each recipe.  My family helped with the development of my own 'French Morning Muffins' and commented on each recipe I tried.  I have worked to combine all the feedback I got into this recipe, and they turned out amazing!  For an extra indulgence, split the muffin in half and spread some butter on it.  Try out these wonderful French morning muffins and let me know what you think!

This cherry pie is perfect for holidays...or any occasion honestly!  The filling is so simple.  There are just a few ingredients mixed together, and then you have a cherry pie.  If you want to make this pie extra special, you can do the lattice pastry top.  I included the instructions in the tips section.  The next time you have a special occasion or holiday, I recommend making this cherry pie for a sweet ending to your event.

Bon Appetit!

Tips:

I use my double crust pie recipe (here) for this pie.  For the lattice, follow these instructions once you have the pie dough for a beautiful presentation.

Lattice Instructions - Roll out the remaining disk of dough into a 12 inch round.  With an old-fashioned crimper, sharp knife, or pizza cutter, cut into 1-inch-wide strips.  Lay about half of the strips on the pie in one direction, about 1/2 inch apart.  Fold back every other strip half way.  Lay a strip perpendicular to the first ones.  Unfold the strips back over the new strip,...
