Spooky Caramel Apple Cats

Aren't these caramel apple cats adorable? I'm smitten! These Halloween-inspired caramel apples are a delight to the eyes and to those with a sweet tooth! I'm not a confidant food decorator, but I found these caramel apples easy to make - even the youngest can help decorate these spooky kitty-cats. All you need is a few special ingredients. Just for reference, I got this recipe from the autumn 2017 issue of Celebrate! with Woman's World. Happy Halloween everyone!
Bon Appetit!
Tips:
You may need to warm up the caramel in-between dipping the apples.
A toothpick may help with the decorating of the cat ears.
Have an extra chocolate candy bar on hand - you may need it because of breakage.
Total Time is 45 minutes.

Ingredients:
6 wooden craft sticks
4 to 5 apples at room temperature, stems removed
3 packages (4.51 ounces each) Werther's Cocoa Crème soft caramels
1 milk chocolate candy bar
1 1/3 cup chocolate sprinkles
1 tube black decorating icing
8 to 10 banana runts
5 heart shaped runts
1 tube white decorating icing
1 tube pink decorating icing
Directions:
For the cat ears, cut the milk chocolate candy bars into triangles; set aside for later. Pour the chocolate sprinkles into a deep wide bowl. Line a baking sheet with wax paper; coat with cooking spray. Insert 1 stick into the stem end of each apple. In a large glass measuring cup or deep microwave-safe bowl, microwave the caramels with 1 tablespoon water on HIGH in 30-second intervals, stirring between intervals, until melted.
Immediately, dip one apple into the melted caramel mixture, using the back of a spoon to spread; scrape off excess caramel. Transfer to a baking sheet. Working quickly, press the chocolate ears promptly into the warm caramel on top of the apple. Straightaway, place the apple in the bowl of sprinkles; gently spoon the sprinkles over to cover completely (you may need to carefully press sprinkles in the caramel with fingers). Repeat, rewarming the caramel if necessary. Let apples stand until ears and sprinkles are set, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
To Decorate:
Using a tube of black decorating icing as glue, attach the bananas and heart shaped runt candies for eyes and noses. Pipe on the white decorating icing for the whiskers. Decorate the ears with the pink icing (may use toothpick). Makes 4 to 5 apple-cats.
